Alabama White Sauce Chicken Skewers

A classic Southern sauce, perfect for BBQ chicken.

White BBQ Sauce

  • 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp prepared horseradish
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground pepper


  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast sliced or cubed
  • 12 skewers if using wooded skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before using
  • salt and pepper


For the White BBQ Sauce

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together, mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, horseradish, garlic, lemon juice, mustard powder, cayenne powder, salt and pepper.
  2. Let sit for at least 30 minutes before using, however this will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

For the Skewers

  1. Slice or cube the chicken. Lightly sprinkle with salt and pepper
  2. Place the chicken into a ziplock bag and add enough sauce to coat. Marinade for 30 minutes to an hour.
  3. Thread the marinated chicken onto prepared skewers.
  4. Place the chicken skewers onto a preheated grill, lightly basting with sauce until the chicken is cooked through.
  5. Serve as a light meal or as an appetizer
